Abstract

The origins of honour killing in India can be traced back to ancient times when the caste system and patriarchy were prevalent in society. In many cases, inter-caste marriages or marriages outside the community were perceived as a violation of social norms and resulted in honour killings. Over time, this practice has continued to persist in some parts of the country, despite efforts by the government and civil society to eradicate it. In recent years, there has been an increase in reported cases of honour killings in India. honour killings are an immoderate type of gendered domestic violence, with related to the social and cultural traditions of tribal, patriarchal societies. perpetrators of honour killings are uneducated The objective of the study is to examine whether honour killing is a serious crime. The nature of this study is mostly descriptive and analytical sample size of 200. An attempt has been made in this research to assess the empowerment of people in India.  An attempt been made in this research to assess the empowerment of people in India. SPSS software was used to Analyse and show the data from the chi-square tests, and ANOVA. In conclusion honour killings is evil Culture or customs and Religion should not be an excuse for committing such crimes because they are open ended and we as humans tend to misinterpret them. The right to freely practise religion does not guarantee the right to kill. Hence, in my opinion, in order to curb this evil, the term “honour” needs to be redefined and that can be done by Spreading awareness, social reforms, and strict legal backing.
